Well, what a great start to something I hope will become an annual event. In arts week our children had a fantastic time exploring illustrators such as Maurice Sendak, Lauren Child, Eric Carle and Rob Biddulph, but also had the opportunity to meet and work with artists from our local community. We were very lucky to have Sophie Hughes come in to work with our reception children creating dragons.
Pine class were treated to a lesson on how to illustrate birds run by the wonderful Claire Beavis who also instructed Mr Adkin’s class in the art of shading the sea.
Year 4 were an amazing audience for PJ Crook and her husband who came in to talk about her life as an artist and how she gets her inspiration for her work, which is exhibited internationally and in St Michaels church.
Throughout the week, children were sketching daily, exploring art in nature and sharing their love of book illustrations. Each class illustrated a page of the book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ so that we now have our very own Woodmancote version which will go on display in the library area for all to appreciate. It was such an exciting week and enthusiasm for the arts was through the roof when on Thursday afternoon we had a visit from Nikki and her team at Coady Crew who taught us all some art through the medium of dance.
If you would like more information please email Coady Dance Studios. They have classes in Streetdance, Breakdance, Contemporary and Acro and are based at Cleeve Secondary.
A big thank you to the children and teachers for throwing themselves in and becoming artists for the week.
