“Who are the governors? Some of us have been elected by parents, some are members of the local community co-opted for their skills or experience, there’s the school’s Head and an elected staff representative, and a Local Education Authority representative.
What do we do? We make sure the school’s vision, ethos and strategic direction are clearly defined and the school’s plans for them are being followed. We check the educational performance of the school. We make certain effective use is being made of the school’s financial resources. We confirm the school is meeting the many statutory etc requirements placed on it.
How do we do it? We’ve lots of discussions with staff and regular visits to the school to review progress, but we also enjoy informal visits to see the children in plays and concerts, attend social functions and support the many activities taking place in the school.
The result of all this, we believe, is a successful school with a happy and confident atmosphere for children and adults alike, inspired by the ideas of Belong, Aspire and Achieve.”
